In 1804 this is the church that was built for our membership to attend. It was an ordinary log cabin built by the community of the church. The First Presbyterian Church of Hubbard, Ohio is a member of the Eastminster Presbytery, the Synod of the Covenant and the United Presbyterian Church in the United States of America. It was organized in 1804 shortly after the Hubbard Community came into being. Many early settlers were members of the congregation. Shortly after its organization a log meeting house was erected on the site of what is now the Old North Cemetery. In 1828 a frame building was erected to take the place of the original structure and no pictures are available of this building.

In 1857 the church was relocated to the corner of West Liberty and Hagar Streets. This sanctuary was our home for 102 years. This building was remodeled in 1891 and in 1923 and a manse for the pastor was erected next door. The congregation prospered over the years with faithful and dedicated leadership. Its witness to the Christian faith and the Presbyterian Tradition was a vital part of the community life in Hubbard.

In 1959, the congregation felt the need to seek a new location to carry out its witness and ministry. Land was purchased on Westview Avenue at the junction of Parish Avenue and this is the present location of our church. The church continued with colonial architecture and the tall spire is visible for a long distance. The original church bell, which was cast in 1859 was brought to the new church facility and has continued to ring for more than a century. A sanctuary was built in 1959 and in 1960 the educational building was erected.

The congregation enjoyed its greatest prosperity during this period with the membership numbering more than six hundred and the Sunday school expanding to the limits of its capacity. During 1981, a remodeling program was completed providing for more adequate office space, pastor's study and additional classrooms.

Over the past 200 years of its life the Hubbard congregation has had the services of 33 pastors. It has been a member of five different presbyteries.

As the congregation looks back upon the wealth of its history with gratitude for its heritage, it looks forward with a hopeful eye to its future. Although the future is still to be revealed, it lives in the confidence that the God who brought it into being though His providence will continue to guide it and nurture it to be faithful in His service. Proud of our Christian Witness and Service, the congregation anticipates new challenges and opportunities as we move into the next century.

We dedicate this site to those who have faithfully provided us with the 200 years of our heritage. It is our prayer that we shall be faithful to the ministry which they have begun and we will continue the legacy.
